Understanding the Daily Planner

How the daily planner works and how to use it effectively

What is a Daily Planner?

A daily planner is a task management tool that helps you organise everything you need to accomplish in a single day. Unlike project management tools that span weeks or months, a daily planner focuses on today — giving you a clear, actionable list of tasks with priorities and time blocks. Our daily planner runs entirely in your browser, saves to local storage, and requires no account or installation. It supports drag-and-drop reordering, priority labels (high, medium, low), and time-block grouping (morning, afternoon, evening, anytime) so you can structure your day the way that works best for you.

How Our Daily Planner Works

  1. Add Your Tasks: Type a task in the input field and press Enter or click Add. Before adding, select a priority level (high, medium, or low) and a time block (morning, afternoon, evening, or anytime) to organise your day.
  2. Organise and Reorder: Tasks are grouped by time block so you can see your morning, afternoon, and evening plans at a glance. Drag any task by its grip handle to reorder it within the list. Use the filter tabs to view all, active, or completed tasks.
  3. Track Your Progress:Click the circle icon next to any task to mark it complete. The progress bar at the top shows your completion percentage for the day. Use "Clear done" to remove completed tasks, or "Clear all" to start fresh.

What the Daily Planner Saves

  • Task Text: The full text of each task you add, preserved exactly as you typed it.
  • Priority and Time Block: The priority label (high, medium, low) and time block (morning, afternoon, evening, anytime) assigned to each task.
  • Completion Status: Whether each task is marked complete or incomplete, so your progress is preserved if you close and reopen the browser.
  • 7-Day History:The daily planner keeps task lists for the last 7 days in your browser's local storage. Older days are automatically removed to keep storage usage minimal.

Tips for Effective Daily Planning

Keep your daily planner list realistic — aim for 3–5 high-priority tasks per day rather than an overwhelming list. Use the morning block for your most important or cognitively demanding tasks when your energy is highest. Assign the afternoon block to meetings, emails, and collaborative work. Reserve the evening block for lighter tasks, reviews, or planning the next day. The drag-and-drop reordering in the daily planner lets you reprioritise quickly when unexpected tasks arise. At the end of each day, review what you completed and move unfinished tasks to tomorrow's list.

Frequently Asked Questions About Daily Planner

Common questions about the daily planner and how it works

A daily planner is a browser-based task management tool that helps you organise everything you need to accomplish today. Our daily planner lets you add tasks with priority labels and time-block grouping, drag to reorder them, and check them off as you go — all saved automatically to your browser with no account required.

Yes. The daily planner saves all your tasks automatically to your browser's local storage every time you make a change. When you reopen the browser and visit the daily planner, your tasks for today will be exactly as you left them. The planner keeps the last 7 days of task history.

Absolutely. The daily planner runs entirely in your browser and never sends any data to a server. Your tasks, priorities, and completion status are stored only in your browser's local storage and never leave your device. No account, no tracking, no data collection.

Yes — the daily planner is 100% free with no signup, no account, and no usage limits. Add as many tasks as you need, use it every day, and it will always be completely free with no ads.

Each task has a grip handle icon on the left side. Click and drag any task by its grip handle to move it to a new position in the list. The daily planner uses the browser's native HTML5 drag-and-drop API, so no plugins or extensions are required. The new order is saved automatically.

The daily planner supports three priority levels: High (red), Medium (yellow), and Low (green). These are visual labels to help you identify which tasks need your attention first. High-priority tasks are marked with a red left border, medium with yellow, and low with green. You set the priority when adding a task.

Time blocks let you assign tasks to a specific part of the day: Morning, Afternoon, Evening, or Anytime. The daily planner groups tasks by time block so you can see your morning tasks, afternoon tasks, and evening tasks in separate sections. This helps you plan a realistic schedule rather than a flat undifferentiated list.

The daily planner stores task lists for the last 7 days in your browser's local storage. However, the planner currently shows only today's tasks in the main view. Previous days' data is retained in storage for 7 days before being automatically removed to keep storage usage minimal.

Yes. The daily planner is fully responsive and works on mobile browsers. The layout adapts to smaller screens, and you can add, complete, and delete tasks on any device. Note that drag-and-drop reordering requires a pointer device — on touch screens, use the delete and re-add workflow to reorder tasks.
