About Zalgo Text

Zalgo text (also called "corrupted text" or "glitch text") uses Unicode combining diacritical marks — characters that attach to the previous character. By stacking multiple marks onto a single letter, the text appears corrupted, glitchy, or "cursed." The effect is purely cosmetic: the original letters are still there, hidden beneath the marks. Higher intensity adds more marks per character for an increasingly chaotic appearance. Different mark positions create distinct visual styles — above-only looks like heavy accents, below-only looks like underlining, and both creates the classic Zalgo look.

Features

Adjustable Intensity

Control the Zalgo effect with a 1-10 intensity slider. Subtle (1-2) adds just a few marks per character for a lightly corrupted look. Extreme (9-10) stacks up to 12 marks per character for chaotic, heavily glitched text. Fine-tune the exact level of corruption you need.

3 Mark Positions

Choose whether combining marks appear above characters (like stacked accents), below characters (like heavy underlines), or both above and below for the classic full Zalgo effect. Each position creates a distinctly different visual style.

Randomized Variations

Each conversion randomly selects from over 200 different Unicode combining marks. Click 'Randomize' to instantly generate a completely new set of mark combinations — no two outputs look the same, even with identical input text and intensity.

Space Preservation & Live Stats

Keep spaces clean and readable while marks are applied to letters only. Live character stats show original vs converted size with marks-per-character ratio, so you always know how intense your Zalgo text has become.

Use Cases

Anti-Scraping & Bot Deterrence

Obfuscate text content with Zalgo glitch effect to make it harder for automated scrapers and bots to extract meaningful data from your web pages. The Unicode combining marks confuse basic text parsers while remaining readable to human visitors.

Gaming & Social Media Usernames

Create unique, eye-catching usernames for gaming platforms, Discord, Twitter, and other social networks. Zalgo-styled names stand out in crowded chat lists and give your profile a distinctive glitchy or horror aesthetic.

Creative Writing & Horror Aesthetics

Use Zalgo text in horror stories, creepypasta, or glitch-themed creative writing. The corrupted text effect adds visual impact to dialogue from possessed characters, corrupted AIs, or otherworldly beings.

Forum Signatures & Profile Customization

Customize forum signatures, Discord server descriptions, and bio sections with Zalgo text for a distinctive look. Many platforms support Unicode rendering, allowing the glitch effect to display correctly across different services.

UI Mockups & Error State Prototypes

Generate corrupted text for UI prototypes showing error states, glitch screens, hacked interfaces, or system corruption scenarios. Perfect for cybersecurity demos, horror game UIs, and dystopian design mockups.

Cryptic Messages & Puzzles

Create visually encoded messages for escape rooms, treasure hunts, and ARGs (Alternate Reality Games). The Zalgo effect makes text look corrupted and mysterious, adding atmosphere to puzzle clues and hidden messages.

About Zalgo Text

What Is Zalgo Text?

Zalgo text (also called glitch text or corrupted text) is a stylistic text effect created by stacking Unicode combining diacritical marks onto regular characters. These combining marks — including accents, umlauts, tildes, and other annotation symbols — attach to the preceding character and stack vertically, creating the illusion of corrupted or glitched text. The original letters remain underneath, making the effect purely cosmetic but visually striking. The name "Zalgo" originates from internet creepypasta culture, where the effect was used to represent the corrupted influence of a fictional entity.

How Our Zalgo Generator Works

The tool works by taking each letter in your input text and appending a random selection of Unicode combining marks after it. With over 200 different combining marks available across multiple Unicode blocks, the generator creates unique combinations every time. The intensity slider controls how many marks are added per character (from 1-2 at low settings to 10-12 at maximum). The mark position setting filters which marks to use — above-only for accent-like effects, below-only for underline-like effects, or both for the full Zalgo treatment. Randomize generates new mark combinations from the same input for endless variety.

Unicode Combining Marks Explained

Combining diacritical marks are a category of Unicode characters in the ranges U+0300-U+036F (Combining Diacritical Marks), U+1DC0-U+1DFF (Supplement), and U+FE20-U+FE2F (Combining Half Marks). Unlike regular characters, combining marks do not occupy their own space — they attach to and modify the preceding character. When multiple combining marks are stacked, they accumulate vertically, creating the characteristic Zalgo "glitch" appearance. Each mark has a specific visual effect, from simple dots and accents to complex overlapping diacritics.

Privacy & Security

This tool runs entirely in your browser using client-side JavaScript. Your text, generated Zalgo output, and all randomization logic execute locally on your device. No data is uploaded to any server, stored in any database, or transmitted over the network. There are no API calls, analytics tracking cookies, or data collection of any kind. This makes it completely safe for obfuscating sensitive content, creative works, or private messages without any privacy concerns.
