Supports JPEG images with EXIF, IPTC, and XMP metadata

Metadata Options

Upload a JPEG image to get started. In Hide Data mode, your secret message is embedded into the image metadata (EXIF/IPTC/XMP). In Extract Data mode, hidden messages are recovered. Optionally strip visible metadata before hiding for additional privacy.

Why Use Our Image Data Hider?

Complete EXIF/IPTC/XMP Metadata Support

Hide secret text messages inside any of the three standard image metadata formats: EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) for camera and author fields, IPTC (International Press Telecommunications Council) for news and caption metadata, and XMP (Extensible Metadata Platform) for Adobe-ecosystem metadata. The tool detects all present metadata fields and shows you exactly what's available.

Hide & Extract Hidden Messages

Two complete modes in one tool: Hide mode embeds a secret text message into the image metadata fields while optionally stripping visible metadata for privacy, and Extract mode recovers hidden messages from stego-images by scanning for embedded data markers.

Metadata Analysis & Stripping

Get a complete analysis of all metadata fields in your image, organized by group (EXIF, IPTC, XMP) with tag names and values. Optionally strip all visible metadata before hiding your data, leaving only the hidden payload. Preserve specific fields like Software or Resolution if needed.

100% Browser-Local & Private

All image metadata hiding runs entirely in your browser. Your images, secret messages, and stego outputs never leave your device. No server uploads, no API calls, no data storage, and no tracking. Perfect for secure data hiding without exposing your content to third parties.

Common Use Cases for Image Metadata Hiding

Covert Data Communication

Hide secret messages inside seemingly innocent JPEG images. The hidden data is stored in EXIF/IPTC metadata fields that are invisible to casual viewers. Images appear normal when viewed in any application or shared online, while carrying your hidden payload that can be extracted by authorized recipients.

Digital Watermarking & Copyright

Embed copyright information, creator attribution, or ownership data into image metadata. Unlike visible watermarks, metadata-based watermarks are invisible and don't affect the image appearance. Combine with visible metadata stripping to leave only your hidden ownership marker.

Privacy-Preserving Image Sharing

Strip all visible EXIF metadata (camera model, GPS location, date, software) that can identify the photographer or location before sharing images publicly. Then optionally embed a hidden identifier to track the shared image source without exposing any visible metadata.

E-Commerce & Stock Photography

Stock photographers and e-commerce sellers can embed tracking information, client identifiers, or license keys into image metadata. Each client receives a uniquely watermarked version, making it possible to trace unauthorized sharing or usage of protected images.

Educational Tool for Metadata

Learn how image metadata works by exploring EXIF, IPTC, and XMP fields in real images. See what information cameras and editing software embed, and understand how metadata can be used for both legitimate attribution and covert communication.

Security Research & Forensics

Generate metadata-stego images for security research, Capture The Flag (CTF) challenges, and digital forensics training. Create images with hidden metadata payloads at varying complexity levels to test steganalysis and metadata forensics techniques.

Understanding Image Metadata Hiding

What is Image Metadata Hiding?

Image metadata hiding is a steganographic technique that embeds secret data inside the metadata fields of image files rather than modifying the pixel data. Image files contain structured metadata sections - EXIF (camera settings, dates, GPS), IPTC(captions, keywords, credits), and XMP (Adobe ecosystem data) - that can carry hidden payloads. Unlike pixel-based steganography (LSB modification), metadata hiding does not alter the visual appearance of the image at all, making it completely imperceptible to visual inspection.

How Our Metadata Hider Works

Our tool parses the JPEG file structure to identify all metadata segments (EXIF APP1, IPTC APP13, XMP). In Hide mode, your message is base64-encoded and wrapped in a [HIDDEN:...] marker, then embedded into the image metadata. Optionally, all visible metadata fields can be stripped first, leaving only the hidden payload. The modified image is re-encoded as a PNG to preserve the embedded data. InExtract mode, the tool scans for the hidden marker and decodes the message. An optional XOR password adds an extra scrambling layer for security. All processing is done client-side.No data is uploaded to any server.

Metadata Formats: EXIF vs IPTC vs XMP

  • EXIF (APP1): The most common metadata format, embedded by cameras and smartphones. Stores camera make/model, exposure settings, date/time, GPS coordinates, orientation, and software information.
  • IPTC (APP13): Originally designed for news agencies. Stores captions, headlines, keywords, bylines, credit lines, copyright notices, and category information.
  • XMP (APP1): An XML-based metadata standard by Adobe. Stores extended metadata that overlaps with EXIF and IPTC but adds support for Adobe Creative Cloud, Lightroom edits, and custom schema.

Privacy & Limitations

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your images and messages are never uploaded to any server. Important limitations:The tool works with JPEG images for metadata operations. The Canvas API used for re-encoding strips EXIF/IPTC/XMP metadata, so the hidden data is preserved using an alternative encoding method in the output PNG. Browser Canvas API may not preserve all image quality on re-encode. For maximum fidelity, use dedicated desktop tools. Social media platforms strip metadata from uploaded images.
