Smart Grocery List Builder

The Smart Grocery List Builder is a free, browser-based tool that helps you create organised shopping lists by category. Choose from 15 categories - Produce, Dairy & Eggs, Meat & Seafood, Pantry & Dry Goods, Frozen, Bakery & Bread, Household & Cleaning, Beverages, Snacks & Sweets, Spices & Seasonings, Condiments & Sauces, Health & Beauty, Baby & Kids, Pet Supplies, and Other. Each item has a quantity field so you can specify exactly how much you need. Check items off as you shop and track your completion progress with a visual progress bar. Multiple lists are saved to your browser's localStorage - no accounts, no signup, no server uploads.

1. 1. Create or Select a List: Start with the default "Weekly Groceries" list or create a new one for a specific purpose (holiday meal, camping trip, bulk shopping). Lists are shown as tabs at the top of the tool - click to switch between them. Each list is independent with its own items and checked-off state. Use the duplicate button to copy an existing list, or the export button to copy the unchecked items as text.
2. 2. Add Items by Category: Each category section is collapsible - tap the header to expand or collapse it. Type an item name and press Enter to add it to any category. Use the search bar at the top to find items across all categories, with auto-suggestions from 200+ common grocery items. One-tap add from suggestions saves time. Each item has an editable quantity field - change "1" to "2 lbs" or "3 dozen" as needed.
3. 3. Shop & Track Progress: As you shop, check items off by tapping the checkbox next to each item. The progress bar at the top shows exactly how much of your list is complete (e.g., "12 of 35 items checked - 34%"). Each category also shows its own sub-total (e.g., "3/5" for Produce). Use the "Clear checked" button to remove all checked items at once, or "Reset list" to start fresh while keeping the list name.

• 200+ Auto-Suggestions: Stop typing from scratch. Our built-in database of common grocery items suggests matches as you type, pre-categorised into the right section. Search for "chicken" and see chicken breast, chicken thighs, and more with one-tap add.
• Multiple Lists: Create separate lists for weekly groceries, holiday dinners, camping trips, or bulk shopping. Each list is saved independently with its own items, categories, and checked-off state.
• LocalStorage Persistence: All lists are saved to your browser's localStorage automatically. Close the tab and come back later - your lists are still there. No accounts, no signup, no data sent to any server.

Your lists are stored locally: The grocery list builder saves your lists to your browser's localStorage. This means your data stays on your device and is never transmitted to any server. However, clearing your browser data, using private/incognito mode, or switching browsers will remove your saved lists. Export important lists using the copy-as-text button before clearing browser data. No account needed: Unlike grocery list apps that require signup, our tool works immediately with no barriers. Stay organised: Use separate lists for different purposes - a "Weekly" list for routine shopping, a "Party" list for special events, and a "Bulk" list for warehouse trips. This keeps each list focused and prevents items from getting mixed up.
