Common Use Cases for Workout Log & Exercise Tracker
Strength Training Progress
Lifters track their bench press, squat, deadlift, and accessory work over time. The weight progression chart shows exactly how much stronger you are getting session by session - perfect for linear progression, 5×5, or any strength programme that demands consistent logging.
Bodyweight & Calisthenics
Bodyweight athletes log push-ups, pull-ups, dips, and pistol squats with sets and reps. Track your max reps per set over weeks and months, and see your endurance improve in the progress charts - no equipment needed, just discipline and the log.
Hypertrophy Programmes
Bodybuilders and aesthetics-focused lifters log high-volume workouts with 3-5 sets of 8-15 reps per exercise. The volume calculation (sets × reps × weight) helps quantify total workload per muscle group and ensures progressive overload across training blocks.
Personal Training & Coaching
Personal trainers use the log to design and track client workouts. Log multiple exercises per session, review client progress across weeks, and show them their weight progression chart during check-ins. A simple, effective tool for in-person or remote coaching.
Home Gym Workouts
Home gym athletes with limited equipment log their workouts just like at a commercial gym. Track dumbbell, resistance band, and bodyweight exercises. The localStorage persistence means no app subscriptions, no internet required after loading - just your browser and your log.
Small Group Training
Group fitness coaches run small team sessions - log the same workout for multiple members or use a shared device to track a partner workout. The session-based organisation makes it easy to separate Monday push day from Wednesday pull day across different training groups.
Understanding the Workout Log & Exercise Tracker
What is a Workout Log & Exercise Tracker?
A workout log is a tool for recording your exercise sessions - the exercises performed, sets completed, reps achieved, and weight used. Our workout log & exercise tracker goes beyond a simple notepad by calculating training volume, tracking progress over time with charts, and organising your sessions by date. All data runs entirely in your browser with no account needed and no data uploads.
How Our Workout Log Works
- Create a Session: Each workout gets a new session with the current date automatically recorded. Sessions are displayed in reverse chronological order so your latest workout is always at the top.
- Log Exercises: Within a session, add exercises one at a time. Enter the exercise name, number of sets, reps, weight (in kg or lbs), and optional rest time between sets. Each exercise shows its calculated volume.
- Track Progress: The progress chart shows weight progression for any exercise you have logged multiple times. See your bench press go up, your squat deepen, or your pull-up reps increase over weeks and months.
- Review History: Scroll through your complete workout history. Each session card shows the number of exercises, total sets, and overall volume. Delete sessions you no longer need or reset all data with one click.
What the Workout Log Shows
- Session List: All your workouts organised by date. Each session shows the date, exercise count, total sets, and calculated volume. Expand any session to see individual exercises with sets, reps, weight, and rest time.
- Exercise Form: A clean form to add exercises - name, sets, reps, weight in kg or lbs (toggleable), and optional rest minutes. Exercises appear immediately in the current session.
- Progress Chart: Select any exercise from a dropdown to see an interactive line chart of weight used across all sessions where that exercise was logged. Track your progression over time.
- Session & Volume Stats: Quick stats showing your total logged sessions, total exercises logged, and current training streak (consecutive days with at least one logged session).
Privacy & Data Storage
This workout log runs entirely in your browser with no server-side processing. All workout data - sessions, exercises, sets, reps, and weights - are stored locally in your browser's localStorage and are never transmitted to any server. You can delete individual sessions or clear all data at any time using the built-in reset option. No account creation, no email, no signup required. This tool is for general fitness tracking and is not a medical device - consult a healthcare professional before starting any exercise programme.

Frequently Asked Questions About Workout Log & Exercise Tracker
A workout log helps you track your exercise sessions systematically. By recording sets, reps, and weights for each exercise, you can ensure progressive overload - the gradual increase of stress placed on the body during training. This is the fundamental principle of strength and muscle gain. Our log makes it easy to see exactly how much weight you used last week, whether you are improving, and which exercises need more attention.
Yes. All your workout sessions and exercises are automatically saved to your browser's localStorage. Your data persists when you close and reopen the browser, and it stays on your device - it is never sent to any server. You can also delete individual sessions or clear all data with the reset option.
The progress chart feature lets you select any exercise you have logged multiple times and view a line chart of the weight used across sessions. For example, if you log bench press in three different sessions, you will see a chart showing your weight progression from session 1 to session 3. This makes it easy to confirm that your training is driving real strength gains.
Training volume is a measure of total work performed, calculated as sets × reps × weight. For example, 3 sets of 10 reps at 50 kg gives a volume of 3 × 10 × 50 = 1,500 kg for that exercise. Tracking volume helps ensure you are accumulating enough training stimulus for muscle growth and strength gains across sessions.
Absolutely. For bodyweight exercises like push-ups, pull-ups, squats, or lunges, set the weight to your body weight or leave it as 0 (the volume calculation will show sets × reps). You can also add the exercise name with a note like "bodyweight" to keep your log clear. The progress chart will still track your improvement in reps per set over time.
There is no built-in limit beyond what your browser's localStorage can hold (typically 5-10 MB, which can store thousands of exercises). The app is designed for long-term use - you can log workouts daily for years without running into storage issues. Sessions are paginated in the history view for performance.
Yes. Each session has a delete button that removes the entire session and all its exercises. Within a session, each exercise has a delete button to remove individual entries. There is also a "Reset All Data" option in the header that clears your entire workout history - use this with caution as it cannot be undone.
No. This workout log is a general fitness tracking tool that helps you record and visualise your exercise data. It does not prescribe workouts, suggest exercise form, diagnose conditions, or replace professional coaching. Consult a qualified fitness professional or healthcare provider before starting any exercise programme, especially if you have pre-existing health conditions.
