Understanding the Timesheet Calculator
What is a Timesheet Calculator?
A timesheet calculator is a tool that automatically computes work hours from clock-in and clock-out times. Unlike manual time tracking with spreadsheets, a timesheet calculator handles the arithmetic for you - subtracting break times, calculating daily totals, detecting overtime, and aggregating hours across weeks or months. Our timesheet calculator online runs entirely in your browser with automatic localStorage saving, so your hours are preserved between sessions without any cloud account or data upload.
How Our Timesheet Calculator Works
- Add Time Entries:Click “Clock In for Today” or use the plus icon on any day to add a new time entry. Each entry has clock-in time, clock-out time, break duration (in minutes), and an optional note. The calculator supports multiple entries per day for split shifts or multiple work sessions.
- Review Auto-Calculated Hours: For each entry, the calculator displays the gross hours (clock-out minus clock-in) and net hours (gross minus break). Daily totals show the sum of all entries for that day, with overtime automatically flagged when net hours exceed 8 hours. The summary bar shows total, regular, and overtime hours for the selected period.
- Export or Track Over Time: Switch between week and month views to see your hours over any period. Export all data as a CSV file for payroll or spreadsheet analysis. All entries are automatically saved to localStorage and persist across browser sessions - no signup required.
What the Timesheet Calculator Shows
- Time Entries: Each entry shows clock-in, clock-out, break duration, net hours (with gross in parentheses), and an optional note. Entries with overtime (over 8 hours net) are highlighted in amber with the overtime amount shown.
- Day Groups: Days are displayed with the day of week, full date, daily total hours, and all entries for that day. Today is highlighted in blue for easy identification. Weekend days show the day name in red.
- Summary Bar: At-a-glance totals for the current view period: total hours (decimal), regular hours, overtime hours, and number of time entries. Each metric shows both decimal and hours+minutes formats.
- Overtime Alert: When overtime is detected in the current period, a prominent alert shows the total overtime hours and the equivalent at the standard 1.5x overtime rate - helpful for payroll calculations.
- CSV Export: A complete CSV file with all entries sorted by date and time, including date, day, clock-in, clock-out, break, gross hours, net hours, notes, and overtime flag.
