QR Code / NFC Payment Merchant Fee Calculator

A QR code and NFC payment merchant fee calculator helps businesses understand the true cost of accepting contactless and QR-based payments. Enter a transaction amount and select from 7 payment methods - PayPal QR, Venmo QR, UPI QR, Alipay, WeChat Pay, contactless NFC card, and Apple Pay NFC - to see each method's merchant discount rate, per-transaction fee, total cost, net amount you receive, and settlement time. Results are ranked by total fee so you can identify the most cost-effective payment method for your typical transaction size.

Start by entering a transaction amount (e.g. $50 for a typical restaurant meal) and selecting which payment methods you want to compare. The calculator applies each method's unique fee structure - a percentage-based merchant discount rate plus a per-transaction fixed fee - to compute the total merchant fee and net amount you receive for each method. Results are ranked from lowest to highest total fee, with the cheapest option highlighted. A detailed comparison table shows every metric including effective fee rate and settlement time. All calculations run locally in your browser with no data uploaded to any server.

QR code payments work by having the customer scan a merchant's QR code with their mobile payment app. Fees vary dramatically by provider: UPI QR (India) typically charges zero merchant fees, making it the cheapest option globally. Alipay and WeChat Pay charge around 0.55-0.60% with no per-transaction fee. PayPal QR charges 2.29% + $0.09 and Venmo QR charges 1.90% + $0.10. NFC/contactless paymentsuse near-field communication between a card or phone and the payment terminal. Contactless NFC cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) typically cost 1.55% + $0.05, while Apple Pay NFCuses the underlying card network rate at around 1.50% with no per-transaction fee. Settlement times also vary - UPI QR settles instantly, while most other methods take 1-3 business days.

When selecting payment methods for your business, consider more than just the merchant fee percentage. Factor in customer preference - Venmo and PayPal are popular in the US, Alipay and WeChat Pay dominate in China, and UPI is ubiquitous in India. Settlement time matters for cash flow - UPI settles instantly while card networks take 1-2 business days. Regional availability determines which methods your customers can actually use. Minimum transaction sizes matter - fixed per-transaction fees ($0.05-$0.10) disproportionately affect small transactions, making percentage-only fee structures more attractive for micro-transactions. Our calculator shows all these factors so you can make an informed decision that balances cost, convenience, and customer reach.
