Zero-Width Character Hider
Hide secret text as invisible zero-width Unicode characters or extract hidden content from any text. Our zero-width character hider lets you encode messages that are invisible when pasted — perfect for steganography, watermarking, and secret messaging. Fast, secure, and no signup required.
Hide secret text inside normal-looking text using invisible zero-width Unicode characters. The hidden content is completely invisible when pasted, but can be extracted and decoded back to its original form.
If left empty, only the invisible zero-width encoded text will be produced.
Privacy Guarantee
All zero-width encoding and decoding happens entirely in your browser. Your text — including any secret messages — never leaves your device. No uploads, no API calls, no tracking of any kind.
Why Use Our Zero-Width Character Hider?
Invisible Text Encoding
Hide any secret text as invisible zero-width Unicode characters that are completely invisible when pasted into any text field, document, or message. The hidden content blends seamlessly with surrounding visible text.
One-Click Extraction
Extract hidden content from any text with a single click. The tool automatically detects zero-width encoded sequences, decodes them back to the original text, and displays the recovered message instantly.
Cover Text Support
Embed your hidden message inside a normal-looking paragraph of cover text. The zero-width encoded content is appended invisibly at the end, making the text appear completely ordinary while secretly carrying hidden data.
100% Private Browser-Based Processing
All zero-width encoding and decoding happens entirely in your browser. Your secret messages never leave your device — no uploads, no server calls, no data collection. Complete privacy for sensitive hidden communications.
Common Use Cases for Zero-Width Character Hider
Secret Messaging & Steganography
Send hidden messages inside seemingly normal text across any platform that supports Unicode. Paste zero-width encoded text into chat apps, forums, or comment sections, and recipients can extract the hidden content using this tool.
Digital Watermarking
Embed invisible watermarks in published content to prove authorship and detect unauthorized copying. Each copy can contain a unique identifier, allowing you to trace which recipient leaked the content.
Puzzle & Game Design
Create hidden clues, secret messages, and Easter eggs in text-based puzzles, escape rooms, and alternate reality games (ARGs). Players extract hidden content as part of the puzzle-solving experience.
CTF Challenges
Capture The Flag (CTF) and steganography challenges often use zero-width character encoding to hide flags and secret data. This tool provides both encoding and decoding functionality for solving and creating challenges.
Content Tracing & Forensics
Security researchers and digital forensics analysts can use zero-width encoding to embed invisible tracking markers in documents, enabling content tracing, leak detection, and provenance verification.
Spoiler Hiding in Discussions
Hide spoilers for books, movies, TV shows, and games inside discussion posts. Users who want to read the spoiler can extract it, while others see clean text without any visible spoiler content.
About Zero-Width Character Steganography
What Is Zero-Width Character Hiding?
Zero-width character hiding is a form of text steganography that uses invisible Unicode characters to encode secret messages within normal-looking text. These characters — such as the zero-width space (U+200B), zero-width joiner (U+200D), and zero-width non-joiner (U+200C) — take up no visible space when rendered. By encoding each byte of a secret message as a sequence of zero-width characters, data can be hidden in plain sight, invisible to anyone reading the text.
How Our Zero-Width Hider Works
Our zero-width character hider converts each character of your secret message into UTF-8 bytes, then encodes each byte as 8 binary bits using two zero-width characters: ZWSP (U+200B) represents binary 0, and ZWJ (U+200D) represents binary 1. The encoded sequence is wrapped between start and end markers (ZWNBSP and ZWNJ), allowing the extraction algorithm to locate and decode it. The entire encoded payload can be embedded invisibly at the end of any cover text.
Zero-Width Characters Used
U+200B (ZWSP) — Zero-Width Space: Represents binary 0 in our encoding. Commonly used for line-breaking hints and hidden text. U+200D (ZWJ) — Zero-Width Joiner: Represents binary 1. Used in emoji sequences to join multiple characters. U+FEFF (ZWNBSP/BOM) — Start marker. Originally the byte order mark. U+200C (ZWNJ) — End marker. Used in scripts that require context-dependent letter forms.
Limitations & Important Notes
Zero-width character encoding is not encryption — it is obfuscation. Anyone who knows to look for invisible characters can detect and extract hidden data. Some platforms and text fields automatically strip zero-width characters, which can destroy hidden content. Applications like Twitter/X and WhatsApp may remove zero-width characters, while others like Discord and Telegram preserve them. Always test your encoded text by trying to extract it on the target platform.
